With our third child on the way, we hadn’t planned to make a dedicated nursery space. With an upcoming move, it just didn’t seem like the best plan. However, those nesting instincts kicked in hard around 32 weeks. And what better way to channel that energy than by designing a blush pink girl nursery that is both adorable and functional?
While we decided against painting the room, the existing farmhouse gray walls work well with the blush and pink palette. The room also benefits from great natural light, which helps make the space feel warm and inviting. Plus, the provincial hardwood floors we installed last year add a nice contrast to the lighter hues.
In between putting the room together and waiting for her arrival, we’re still soaking up time as a family of four and knocking things off our Fall Bucket List!

Moodboard Inspiration for a Blush and Pink Girl Nursery
Creating a moodboard was my first step. It really helped me narrow down the style I was going for—an elegant yet contemporary nursery design with a classic touch. Here’s what made it into the final look:
Curtains: Although this room has plantation shutters and doesn’t need curtains right now, I’ve bookmarked some gorgeous dusty rose pink curtains just in case. They’re traditional yet chic, and I think they’d fit perfectly with the rest of the decor. I would pair these curtains with this rod and rings, and potentially hire a seamstress to french pleat them! Black out curtains are the way to go for the nursery as they allow you to get baby on a sleep schedule by completely blocking out the light.
Baby Glider: We already own this glider (two actually!), and it’s been a lifesaver with our older kids. It’s neutral enough to fit any style but cozy enough for those late-night snuggles. No need to replace something that already works so well!
Mattress: The mattress is another item we’re reusing. I spent a lot of time researching the best options with baby #1, and we ended up with one that’s Greenguard Gold Certified, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals. Peace of mind for us, and comfort for the baby. I obviously can’t find that one now, but this one on Amazon is what I would choose today – both Greenguard certified and EWG verified.
Dresser: I found a Hemnes dresser from IKEA on Facebook Marketplace. It’s a great height to double as a changing table. If you’re looking for something more Montessori style, the DaVinci Jenny Lind Spindle 3-Drawer Dresser would be a fantastic, girly option for any blush and pink nursery.
Moses Basket: I couldn’t resist adding a natural touch to the nursery with a beautiful Moses basket. It brings in so much texture and warmth. It’s also a practical spot for the baby to rest during those early months or hold them in a safe spot while changing diapers!
Crib Sheets: This time around I wanted to go all out with pink crib bedding. I chose a blush pink and cream set that’s both soft and stylish. This floral set was another contender, offering a delicate blush tone that’s just right. And a pro mom tip: stock up on crib sheets! You’ll thank yourself during those 3 a.m. diaper blowouts.
Rug: When it came to choosing a rug, I had two options. One from West Elm that was absolutely adorable with pink and green floral patterns, and another from Amazon by Loloi. In the end, I went with the Loloi option—still feminine but much more budget-friendly.
Pillows: Adding a few decorative pillows is an easy way to tie the room together. I found some beautiful damask floral print pillows on Amazon that complemented the blush nursery bedding perfectly.
Lamp: This Hearth & Hand Lamp by Joanna Gaines from Target was love at first sight. The gold tones paired with the pleated shade add just the right amount of elegance to the space.
Mirror: I went with an arched gold filigree mirror from Kirklands. If you don’t have one nearby, Amazon has similar options. A mirror is a great way to make the room feel larger and more open.
Snake Plant: I love adding greenery to any room, and a snake plant is perfect for a nursery. Not only is it low-maintenance, but it also helps improve air quality—a win-win!
Floral Prints: I found some printable floral art on Etsy that adds a vintage wallpaper vibe to the room. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect frames, but I love how these prints bring the whole blush and pink girl nursery theme together.
Designing a Nursery on a Budget
One of the best things about nursery design today is that you don’t need to hire a nursery decorator or interior designer to create a stunning space. With tools like Canva, you can easily design a nursery online that’s both stylish and budget-friendly.
Here’s how I approached this nursery project on a budget:
Prioritizing Comfort: While it’s tempting to splurge on every cute item, I focused on comfort and practicality. The rug was the biggest new investment for this room!
Reusing Furniture: We saved a lot of money by reusing items like the glider, mattress, and crib. These pieces are still in great condition and perfectly fit the new design.
DIY Decor: Printable art from Etsy is a budget-friendly way to add personality to the room without spending a fortune. Plus, you can easily swap out prints as your child grows.
Shopping Secondhand: Facebook Marketplace and other resale platforms are goldmines for nursery furniture. The Hemnes dresser I found was a fraction of the cost of a new one, and it’s in great shape.
Incorporating Designer Inspired Nursery Style
If you’re a fan of Shea McGee’s nursery designs, you’ll know that she has a talent for creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. I drew inspiration from her approach by mixing textures and keeping the color palette cohesive. In our blush and pink girl nursery, this meant blending soft fabrics with natural materials like wood and wicker, and adding metallic accents for a touch of elegance. I also actively follow Chris Loves Julia and Jean Stoffer, as well as obsessively stalk Pinterest for nursery design ideas.
Contemporary Meets Classic in Nursery Design
While blush and pink might seem like a traditional choice, you can still achieve a contemporary nursery design by playing with different styles. I combined modern, trending elements like the pleated lamp with more classic pieces like the floral prints and vintage-inspired pillows. This mix of contemporary and classic nursery design gives the room a timeless appeal.
If you’re leaning more towards a classic nursery design, you can incorporate traditional furniture pieces like spindle cribs or tufted chairs. For a contemporary nursery design, focus on clean lines and minimalist decor with a few bold accents. Either way, blending these styles will give your nursery an elegant, sophisticated feel that’s perfect for welcoming your little one.
Final Thoughts on Creating an Elegant, All-Pink Nursery
Designing this blush and pink floral girl nursery has been such a fulfilling experience. It’s a space where our daughter will grow, play, and make her first memories, and I wanted it to feel as special as she is. By mixing old and new, splurging on essentials, and incorporating personal touches, we’ve created an adorable home nursery design that’s both elegant and practical.
And remember, you don’t need to hire a nursery decorator to achieve a stunning design. With tools like Canva, a little creativity, and some thoughtful planning, you can create a beautiful nursery that fits your style and budget. Whether you’re inspired by Shea McGee nursery designs or looking to create a unique all-pink nursery, the most important thing is that the space feels like home—for both you and your baby.
